Record of Ragnarok is based on the manga created by writers Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui, with illustrations by Azychika. The story centers on a high-stakes tournament where legendary figures from human history battle gods from different mythologies to determine the survival of humanity, serialized in Monthly Comic Zenon. The story centers around the “Ragnarok” tournament: a last-chance contest where humanity must prove its worth to the gods. Thirteen gods and thirteen human champions face off in deadly duels. The stakes are clear — if the humans lose, their existence ends permanently. The series has gained worldwide recognition for its distinctive mix of mythology, historical figures, and intense, thrilling battles. It combines elements from various cultures and eras to deliver exciting action that has captured the attention of fans around the globe.
Season 1 premiered on Netflix in June 2021 and featured early matches including Thor vs. Lü Bu, and the fan-favorite Adam vs. Zeus. Season 2, released in two parts in 2023, expanded the scale of the conflict with emotionally complex duels like Jack the Ripper vs. Hercules and Raiden vs. Shiva. These episodes pushed both animation and narrative intensity further. Season 2 concluded with a cliffhanger that perfectly sets the stage for the next battles, leaving many eagerly awaiting the continuation of the story.
So, what’s coming in Season 3? According to the official teaser, we’re heading straight into the 7th round of the tournament — the tiebreaker. Right now, it’s 3 wins for humanity and 3 wins for the gods. So, yeah, tension’s high.
✔️ Qin Shi Huang vs. Hades
✔️ Nikola Tesla vs. Beelzebub
✔️ Leonidas vs. Apollo
Each battle is not only visually intense but also symbolically charged, representing the clash of ideologies and eras. Anime Corner reports that fans of the manga can expect faithful adaptations with some enhanced visual storytelling.
